==Plot==
Kent McCoy, a real estate agent, is a loving husband and father who, for the birthday of his son Jack, hosts a party and invites a clown to amuse Jack and his friends. The clown accidentally goes to another party, but Kent discovers an old clown costume in the attic of one of the houses he is overseeing and decides to wear it, entertaining his son and his friends. After the party, Kent falls asleep still wearing the clown costume, but the next morning he is no longer able to take it off, as the body suit, wig, and red nose are progressively adhering to his skin. When his pregnant wife Meg tries to help Kent remove the fake nose, it rips from his flesh, wounding him. Kent also begins to show strange behaviour and a deep sense of hunger, with a noisy gurgling in his stomach.
Kent tries to understand what is happening to him. Tracking down the previous owner of the costume, Kent finds Herbert Karlsson, who runs a costumes and textiles company. Karlsson is the brother of cancer treatment specialist Dr. Martin Karlsson, who was not only the previous owner of the clown costume, but also suffered the same terrible effects of wearing it. Kent learns that the costume is actually the skin and hair of an ancient demon from Northern Europe now forgotten: the "Cloyne", which attracted five children (one for each coldest month of the year) to devour. Herbert Karlsson suddenly tries to kill Kent, unsuccessfully attempting to behead him.
Kent escapes and moves away from his family, as far as living in a hotel. He fights his new and growing instinct and hunger, contemplating suicide, calling his wife and telling her this is the only way. He then shoots himself in the mouth. However, it does not kill him. He tries another tactic by beheading himself with a pair of buzzsaws, while his wife is out looking for him. He falls, as a little boy opens the door. Not intentionally, the razors let loose, and kill the boy. Eventually giving in, he becomes the demon and devours his first victim and eventually devours a child that bullied Jack, earlier. His wife Meg becomes involved, trying to understand what is afflicting her husband and to help him fight against the demon that dominates his body. Desperate, she re-partners with Karlsson with the intent to free Kent, although Karlsson is prepared to decapitate Kent should the freeing process not work.
Meg learns from Karlsson that freedom from the clown costume can be gained by offering the demon what it wants: children. Karlsson had been aided by his brother Martin, who was the director of an oncology clinic for children, and who chose to sacrifice children that were terminally ill. Since then, Karlsson's brother Martin kept the clown costume in a trunk in his home until his death, which led to its discovery by Kent. Karlson also warns her that the curse follows any part of it, explaining how earlier the family dog had become afflicted by the curse after eating Kent's clown "nose"; which forced him to kill it. Meg is for the longest while, in denial about this and refuses to believe it, but she goes along, reluctantly.
Meanwhile, Kent, almost fully lost, succumbs to the demon who begins hunting more children. Eventually, he sneaks into an indoor playground and arcade. There he kills and devours up til the final number of children. Karlsson fails at killing Kent. Meg, on the other hand, tries to reach her husband. To her horror, the demon demands he give her one last child, promising to free Kent. Whether out of love or final desperation, Meg actually considers giving the demon what it wants. She contemplates kidnapping a child and comes close to doing so, but ultimately, Meg realizes she can not have a child killed.
Upon realizing that the demon didn't follow her, she horrifyingly realizes it went after Jack. The demon clown then begins searching for their son Jack to devour him, even killing Jack's grandfather and ripping off his jaw. Meg begins to fight with her husband but, being pregnant, the demon is drawn to her womb. After a long chase inside the house, Meg is forced to knock his head off with a hammer, killing the demon and husband. In the end, the costume is packed to be analyzed by the police.
